How to improve your AEO score
- Lead with the answer. Open the page with a 40 to 60 word paragraph that answers the main question directly.
- Use question headings. Phrase H2s as the questions people ask and answer each in the first sentence below.
- Add FAQPage schema to a visible FAQ section (generate it free).
- Add facts: numbers, prices, dates and named examples make passages worth quoting.
- Allow AI search bots such as OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot (check yours).
- Cover the subtopics competitors cover, using the content gap in your report.

What is a good AEO score?
85 or above is excellent, 70 to 84 good, 50 to 69 needs work and below 50 poor. The number that matters most is your score compared with the pages AI already cites for your question, which is why every report includes a competitor comparison.
How is this different from other AEO checkers?
Most AEO checkers score one page against a generic checklist. This tool also finds the pages that live search returns for your question, scores them on the same 22 factors, shows which sites an AI answer actually cites, lists what competitors do that you do not, and drafts a ready-to-paste answer paragraph for your page.
What is an AI citation gap?
An AI citation gap is the difference between the sources an AI answer cites for a question and your own page. If competitors are cited and you are not, the gap shows exactly what those pages have that yours lacks, such as a direct answer, FAQ schema or subtopics you do not cover.
Does the tool check ChatGPT and Perplexity directly?
No tool can see inside ChatGPT or Perplexity rankings. The citation test runs a live web search for your question and has an AI write a cited answer from those results, which follows the same retrieve-then-cite process. Crawler access for ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Google and Bing is checked from your robots.txt.
How long does it take to improve AEO?
Structural fixes such as adding a direct answer, FAQ schema or question headings take effect when the page is recrawled, often within days to a few weeks. Gaining citations against strong competitors usually takes several weeks of improvements and fresh content.
Does AEO replace SEO?
No. Answer engines still retrieve pages from search indexes, so crawlable, fast, trustworthy pages remain the foundation. AEO adds the structure that makes your content easy to extract and quote. Read AEO vs SEO vs GEO.
What should I enter as the target question?
